Communist Manifesto Illustrated

''The Communist Manifesto Illustrated'' is a four-part comic book series published by Red Quill Books from 2010-2015. Each of the four chapters contains illustrated front matter depicting contemporary aspects of socialist politics. This is followed by excerpted text from the Communist Manifesto which is accompanied by artistic representations of the original written work.
In the introduction to "(Chapter One: Historical Materialism )", the editor argues that the purpose of the series is "to reanimate the text"; "to make it available to a new audience" and "to re-acquaint us with a political pamphlet that forged the ideological foundations for one of the most idealistic yet repressive eras in human history"〔Rigakos, George S. 2010. Introduction to "The Communist Manifesto Illustrated - Chapter One: Historical Materialism. (Ottawa: Red Quill Books, 2010), p.2〕
==Series Synopsis==
The illustrated series was edited by Carleton University Professor George S. Rigakos and three of the four chapters were illustrated by the Argentinian artist Victor Serra. The four chapters of the illustrated series have been released under following successive titles:
* (1) Marx, Karl and Frederik Engels. Edited by: George S. Rigakos. Illustrated by Victor Serra. (2010) ''The Communist Manifesto Illustrated. Chapter One – Historical Materialism''. Ottawa: Red Quill Books ISBN 978-1-926958-02-6;
* (2) Marx, Karl and Frederik Engels. Edited by: George S. Rigakos. Illustrated by Victor Serra. (2011)''The Communist Manifesto Illustrated. Chapter Two – The Bourgeoisie''. Ottawa: Red Quill Books ISBN 978-0-981280-77-6;
* (3) Marx, Karl and Frederik Engels. Edited by: George S. Rigakos. Illustrated by Sketchpad Studios. (2012)''The Communist Manifesto Illustrated. Chapter Three – The Proletariat''. Ottawa: Red Quill Books ISBN 978-1-926958-02-6; and
* (4) Marx, Karl and Frederik Engels. Edited by: George S. Rigakos. Illustrated by Victor Serra. (2015)''The Communist Manifesto Illustrated. Chapter Four – The Communists''. Ottawa: Red Quill Books ISBN 978-1926958-09-5
This chapter structure deviates from the original Manifesto. In an online interview Rigakos has suggested that "the manifesto lends itself to this type of organization. Not necessarily on a panel to panel story-line basis but definitely on a thematic or grand narrative level."〔Munn, Bryan. (Dec. 22, 2010) "Interview: The Communist Manifesto (Illustrated)" ''Sequential Pulp'' http://sequentialpulp.ca/interview-the-communist-manifesto-illustrated/〕
